QCA to promote women’s cricket

The Qatar Cricket Association (QCA) is going ahead with plans to promote girls’ cricket in the country, hoping to send teams to the Asian under – 19 tournaments in Malaysia (2008) and China (2010).

A meeting was held to chalk out a plan of action and the response was good and the response was good, the QCA said.
Representatives of several schools were invited to the meeting, Aruna De Silva, the QCA’s head of women’s cricket development programme. 

 “Everyone at the meeting was positive about the idea of promoting cricket among girls studying in schools in Qatar,” de Siva said.
“The QCA is willing to support girls cricket in schools with whatever help possible,” he added.

Manzoor Ahmad, general secretary (international affairs and operations), Mohammed Imran (QCA office manager), and women’s cricket development cricket programme members Maryam Gul Khan and Usha Andrews attended the meeting were Thomas Bennett and Paramjeet Kaur Bhullar (Birla Public School), Latha Dakshinamurthy and Rajni T (MES), Dilawar Hussain and Elora Khatun (Bangladesh MHMH School and College), Naheed Abid (Pak Shama), Sajida Bibi and Munir Ahmed (PEC).
